The Perry Riding Group, based at Yeaton, near Baschurch, is trying to buy new land for the expansion and development of the group which has a huge waiting list.

The riders are based at a private home without indoor facilities but despite the support lose up to a third of their riding, carriage driving and equestrian vaulting sessions during the year.

Spokeswoman Jane Barker said: "Sponsors are being sought amongst local businesses towards the purchase of 20 acres of land. The cost of which will be approximately £120,000.

"With a waiting list of clients the group knows that a bigger centre would be a viable proposition.

"There is also a hope that other riding for the disabled groups in the area might come and join the centre."

So far she said £20,000 had been raised but the group was keen for as much support as possible from the community and a musical horse display is planned to raise extra funds. There are also plans for an all-weather driving track at the new centre which would allow carriage drivers to have a cross country experience.

Mrs Barker said: "Carriage driving currently takes place by kind permission of the West Midland Showground authorities at the showground on a Wednesday morning and at Forton Airfield by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Graham Hanmer."

The Musical Extravaganza Horse Display is planned for April 29 at 1.30pm at Walford Indoor Arena, Walford College, Baschurch. For details visit www.perry-rda.org or call (01939) 261147.
