I have received information under the Freedom of Information Act from Telford & Wrekin Council. Officers have been as helpful as the law allows under this Act.

The cost to the council of Christine Davies's suspension has been nil. Her cover job was carried out by the service heads within the children and young people portfolio as appropriate.

The basic salary for a corporate director is approximately £100,530 plus about £1,000 expenses.

The amount of money paid to Christine Davies during her three-month suspension would have been about £25,000 plus probably 12 per cent towards her pension, paid by her employer - Telford & Wrekin Council.

This does beg the question that if no detriment to the service was apparent, could this not be a permanent solution, thus saving Telford & Wrekin about £112,713 per annum?
