Forty years on we learn that bureaucrats and a railway company have stepped in to halt the anticipated new service to the capital serving Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Wellington, Wolverhampton and Tame Bridge.

This move is without doubt another blow for Telford and a big disappointment for a lot of people.

This decision is unwarranted for a variety of reasons. The people of the area have shown support for this service, the present train operating companies would benefit in having overcrowded conditions relieved, and the service would draw more people to the area. It would also encourage shoppers to the area.

The decision has shown a complete disregard for the wishes of the people and of regular commuters.

Welsh Assembly members are disappointed by this move, considering that the intended service would be benefit Wales itself.

It was so important to the Welsh Assembly Government that it offered to pay for the infrastructure work. The number of jobs created by this concept was also an important consideration for them, Shropshire and for Telford.

The solution now is to form a new pressure group.
