Balanced debate is required
There has been a lot of newspaper column space devoted to unitary status, mostly in the form of letters from councillors or comments from the SABC chief executive and councillors which have been turned into provocative headline articles.

Very shortly, the residents of Shrewsbury & Atcham are to be asked to vote on this issue.
My concern is that with all the coverage given in the press expressing the views of the Tory ruling body of SABC against unitary status that residents will not have a balanced view of the issues.
The leader of SABC, Peter Nutting, has arranged for a referendum this month. Could I suggest that we also have an open meeting in the Music Hall with members of both SABC and Shropshire County Council to answer questions from residents to help them make a decision.
