Given that many letters appear regarding recycling facilities, I would like to urge more Telford residents to participate in waste reduction and recycling.

Whilst I acknowledge the practical difficulties that people might have, I feel that as today's avid consumers people must be aware of the waste that they produce and strive to reduce it, re-use valuable resources and recycle a wide range of materials where possible.
My fear is that we live in an environment where huge amounts of waste are treated by dangerously polluting and climate change-producing methods such as landfill and incineration.
The term "waste" is apt: we waste precious resources every day by burying or burning them. The planet and future generations simply cannot withstand this.
I am alarmed that a treatment facility which involves incineration may emerge in Telford to tackle our waste and feel sure that many other local people feel the same.
Waste does not simply go away - it changes into pollution. We must take some responsibility, do our bit and press the producers of wasteful packaging, for example, to do theirs.
In comparison to some places, Telford has a fair range of recycling facilities so please, think again about the "reduce, re-use, recycle" message and help save the environment.
