It's true, youngsters misbehave

It is sad that the student who responded to my letter regarding the behaviour of youngsters on the 435 bus (Ludlow/Shrewsbury 4pm) should need to write in such terms. He/she is obviously averse to taking criticism of any kind, even helpful criticism. In fact, it was not criticism at all: it was fact.

I would say in response:-

1. It is not my nature to tell untruths: everything in my letter I witnessed taking place with my very own eyes (and ears).

2. Friends and acquaintances of mine who travel at this particular time of day can confirm every point I raised.

3. Yes, I too was once young. When I and other students used the buses we behaved ourselves.

4. You state that all I do is complain and criticise. Well quite honestly I could not find anything pleasant to write about these experiences.

5. Yes, I myself still travel quietly and respectfully.

6. One would have thought that a letter of apology from the students concerned might have been more appropriate, with a promise not to do it again.

7. I like young people. They just need to try harder to be nicer.
