Warming up for the Olympics

I am in training for the Olympics 2012. You did not know that you have a prospective Olympic champion in your midst? Don't worry, I am not asking for sponsorship or reward. I intend doing this on my own.

Almost every day I train with other athletes. I give media interviews and join in publicity stunts. I walk, jog and run, jump, throw, swim and box with the best of them. I use the same gymnasiums, athletic tracks, stadiums, arena and public places that they do.

I watch my diet, have given up alcohol (well almost - you can't expect everything), and avoid drugs. I feel shattered already.

And I'm doing this from the comfort of my armchair. Yes, folks, I'm watching, listening and reading every Olympic programme possible. And on the day, I will be ready.

I will carry the Olympic torch on high with pride, I will light the Olympic flame with panache. I will accept my gold and the cheers of the flag-waving crowds with just that touch of humility.

That is if my old television set and well worn leather armchair last for the next six years.
