Boy's bid to trace beloved kitten

For most nine-year-old boys the Christmas wish-list is a pretty straightforward affair. They will generally ask Santa for something like the new Robosapien or XBox. But Shropshire boy Stephen Lewis has just one dream this Christmas. He wants his pet kitten back.

For most nine-year-old boys the Christmas wish-list is a pretty straightforward affair. They will generally ask Santa for something like the new Robosapien or XBox, video games, sports kit, mobile phones or computer accessories.

But Shropshire boy Stephen Lewis has just one dream this Christmas. He wants his pet kitten back.

Six-month-old Jerry disappeared on Friday and Stephen's life has not been the same since.

He thinks Jerry may have made his escape in the back of a DHL Express delivery van but the company have said the driver did not see a cat enter or leave his vehicle.

Stephen, of Picklescott, near Church Stretton, said today: "He is only six months old and likes being in the house.

"I think he might have jumped in a delivery van from DHL Express in Telford which is a long way from Picklescott. Mum has phoned DHL and says the driver did not see Jerry.

"I think Jerry might have got on without being noticed. I miss him so much and all I want for Christmas is for him to come home."

Stephen, a pupil at Prestfelde Preparatory School in Shrewsbury, said Jerry was mainly black with white paws and a white face.

He added: "He is my first pet and my favourite and I really want to get him back."

Stephen's dad Derek Lewis, who has three other children, said Stephen had been asking for a kitten for a long time and they eventually got Jerry for him about five months ago.

He said: "Stephen really loves Jerry and he has been really upset that he has gone missing. He is just hoping and wishing that he will be home in time for Christmas. That's all he wants at the moment.

"Jerry doesn't normally wander off far from home, but no-one seems to have seen him at all in the village. We are just hoping that someone might find him somewhere."

Anyone who thinks they might know of Jerry's whereabouts should contact the Lewis family on (01694) 751262.

STEPHEN'S LETTER

Please can you help me? My kitten Jerry went missing on Friday morning, November 17 and I haven't seen him since.

He is only six months old and likes being in the house.

I think he might have jumped into a delivery van from DHL Express in Telford, which is a long way from Picklescott.

Mum says I should write to you as she has phoned DHL and says the driver did not see Jerry. I think Jerry might have got on without being noticed.

I have bought his Christmas present already and I miss him so much. Please can you try to find him for me?
