I have read in the paper that the Oswestry Town Council is now complaining about wild rabbits in Cae Glas Park. I have come to realise these people have got a dislike of any animal or birdlife in this town.

The first victim of these sad people was the squirrel. I personally witnessed the killing of one by a council worker with a stick.

I told him I would report him but he was not bothered. He told me he was finishing it off because it had eaten rat poison put around plastic bags of rubbish stacked behind the toilets.

Gail Holloway stated they were not allowed to put poison down in the park or anywhere with public access.

As this slaughter took place over a year ago I suspect there has been a cover- up. This man as yet has not been prosecuted.

We now know that the council hates any wild creature that dares to take refuge on council land.

Next victim, the pigeons. They were accused of digging up the flower beds. Wrong. I spend a lot of time in the park and the birds doing the damage are the blackbirds and thrushes. Are they next on the council hit-list?

For now it's the poor rabbits turn. What fate has the council dreamed up for them? What will they declare war on next?

Oswestry is a country town and some of us get a lot of pleasure from seeing these creatures. It is not the animals that are destroying Oswestry's image, but the drunken hooligans. So, has the council any plans to get rid of them?
