Frontage of building

Why and how have the destroyers (some say developers) been allowed to knock down the lovely historic frontage that was Ellesmere Dairy? Of course we know that the rear of the site was an eyesore and needed demolishing. We have long awaited any movement on the site but not the demolition of what is to a lot of people part of Ellesmere's industrial heritage.

We naturally assumed that the frontage was as much a part of Ellesmere as the canal that passes through to Llangollen. How wrong we were.

We loved our dairy, we were proud of our dairy. When it was owned by United Dairies and Unigate it was a profitable and efficient factory with a very happy workforce.

In all of the promotional literature there were lovely expensive hoardings showing hotels' restaurants, shops and other features with just a few houses shown in the background. So how is it now that we all know that there will be mainly housing - at least 220 to start with?

Ellesmere needs a massive shot in the arm for its economy. It needs jobs, it needs new shops, pubs and restaurants. Yet what do we allow to happen? We allow one of our most important buildings to be flattened.
