Where will we get our power?
I've never before wrote to the Shropshire Star, but the letter from LJ Jenkins from Cardigan, "Get behind anti wind turbines campaign", pushed me over the edge! The world is now approaching peak oil or mid hydro carbon depletion and the terminal decline of the world's three largest oil fields.
The end of British North Sea Gas makes us a hostage to foreign gas suppliers.
Uranium supplies peaked in 1981.
Our nuclear reactors are ageing and dangerous.
So where does Mr Jenkins suggest we get our electricity from? Soon he will realise that the end of the oil age is upon us.
The continual burning of fossil fuels and their deadly effect on our climate is probably the greatest threat to humankind ever, and this gentlemen is against wind turbines?
He and his foolhardy followers will be the first ones to moan when they are suffering intermittent blackouts and shivering in their cold houses a few years from now. People like Mr Jenkins need to understand that energy is not a birthright but a 21st century luxury, fought over for thousands of years and has often pushed ancient society's to distinction.
Getting behind an anti wind turbine campaign means no future for you or your children. Now who wants to sign up? If you do I have provided my e-mail address so I can listen to your arguments.
