Girls in hope of reaching top spot

A classical girl band featuring a Shrewsbury teenager has been tipped as one of the hot favourites for this year's coveted Christmas Number One.

All Angels - a female quartet aged between 16 and 17 - is covering Robbie Williams' ballad Angels, which never got to number one despite becoming one of his most popular songs.

Bookmakers William Hill has given the girls odds of 7-1 that they will make the Christmas Number One and say that the group could "break the mould" by trouncing this year's X Factor winner in a race to the top of the charts.

The charity track, being released on December 18, is the official single of the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Former Prestfelde School pupil Melanie Nakhla, 17, was one of the four performers chosen from around 120 hopefuls to join the band.

It has not yet been decided whether the reality show winner will release a Christmas single - but they have the best Christmas Number One odds of 1-3.

Chart-watchers also believe that if Take That's comeback single Patience gets to number one when it is released next month, it could stay there until December.

Sir Cliff Richard, who is releasing a cover of his classic track Move It, featuring Brian May, is also a favourite.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said All Angels has a chance: "But you can never rule out Sir Cliff."
