No right to sell gifted mansion
As a tax payer and citizen of Shrewsbury Town, I demand to know on whose mandate the council is selling Rowley's House. This was a gift to the people of Shrewsbury from the Morris family, and given to Shrewsbury's council to protect and keep for the pleasure of the inhabitants of Shrewsbury.
I was outraged to see the picture on the front of the Star of the council leader - I hope he has declared he has a vested business interest in the area - stating that the tenders will be reviewed by himself to make sure the right buyer was found.
Unless the plans are presented blind, he and the council are again in the position of awarding the purchase not to the highest bidder but to whom they personally feel should get the contract. Another Frankwell Quay situation.
The night afterwards the chief executive stated the council was looking at buying commercial premises in Mardol.
Does this all add up?
I urge all your readers to write to the Deputy Prime Minister's office asking for an urgent public enquiry.
