Sewage is causing a big stink

I wish to reply to the October 6 article regarding Bridgnorth District Council's comments on sewage charges. In the article they say that property owners pay an average £150 per year maintenance costs - I wish!

This year I have just paid a bill for 2006-07 of £216.70p. Over the last 12 years since we bought our house we have paid an average of £171.70 per year.

During a conversation with two of my neighbours, who are council tenants, they told me their sewage charges and it would appear they pay at present an average of £132.23 per year.

That means I am paying £78.47 per year more for the same service.

Yet Mr Tom Clark has been quoted as saying that council tenants are subsidising the homes of private property owners - I think your mathematics have gone a little haywire Mr Clark!

The council's reply that the charges were based on the rateable value of the properties is a complete smokescreen. How can rateable value determine how many times I flush my loo?

Over the last 12 years let us assume that the eight properties, both private and council, in Brick Kiln Lane have paid an average of £150. There is no way that £14,400 has been spent on the sewage system that serves our properties.

I think it is time a full investigation is carried out to see exactly where our money has gone!
