Attitude to swimming facilities

With regard to the article in Shropshire Star dated October 6. I am getting frustrated with the attitude of our councillors and the future of the swimming pools in Shrewsbury. Are Mr Hooper and the council determined to close one of the best leisure facilities that the town has?

I have attended the swimming pool since I came to Shropshire in 1965. This town should be proud of the centre, and I have seen many swimming pools in the past that cannot measure up to this one.

On entering the swimming centre there are posters telling us that Shrewsbury is a leader in leisure activities - please let us make sure it stays that way.

On the subject of saving money, Mr Hooper states that it will save tens of thousands of pounds to close the pool from December 17 until January 2. Will someone explain how this can be done, if everything is turned off, including heating the pool water, how much would it then cost to reheat?

Now the spiral of £47,000 next year for energy works out at £1,423.00 per week. Mr Hooper, are you quite sure about this? The press are telling us that gas prices are to go down not up - and reports in the newspapers and on radio tell us some gas manufacturers are giving the gas away.

On the positive side, may I suggest looking at the cost of solar panels and more reports of what really goes on at the centre and what it has to offer the public.
