Protesters will travel to meeting
An extraordinary meeting looking at the future of Ludlow's troubled hospital will be met by bus loads of angry protesters, it was revealed today.
Shropshire Primary Care Trust's board will be looking at proposals to cut staffing and close two major wards at the hospital and the public's response to the plans.
The meeting is due to take place on October 24 when dozens of angry campaigners are expected to make the journey to Shrewsbury to hear for themselves the board's response to its consultation exercise.
The hospital's league of friends has organised free buses to the meeting.
Today PCT spokesman Yvonne Rowson said: "It is a board meeting held in public so the public are quite entitled to come along. There will also be a chance for people to have questions answered."
The PCT's plans for the hospital have generated a massive display of anger and indignation from Ludlow residents.
Peter Corfield, chairman of the hospital's league of friends, said today: "Over 5,900 responses including letters have been presented to the PCT together with a petition of over 6,700 signatures. We are extremely interested to see what the PCT reaction will be to this demonstration of public opinion.
"The league has arranged for buses to take its members to the PCT board meeting on October 24 so that we can hear the PCT report first-hand and exercise the right to ask questions."
Mr Corfield said free transport would leave Ludlow Hospital at 12.30pm that day and any league member must book a seat by calling Nigel Hall on (01584) 873613.
The meeting will take place at the Griffin, Welti Leisure Centre, Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury and starts at 2pm.
