Party not all behind Tony Blair

Not all the party voted for Mr Blair, as told in a recent letter. To me he seemed sensible, but too young for the position into which he was thrust by the loss of John Smith. One letter lists good achievements by the Government, another the bad ones.

But the thing urgently needed is to halt the daily tragedies in countries we should not have invaded.

The UN reports more torture in Iraq now than under its evil dictator (I'm glad the Shropshire Star spared us the full report).

A very clear letter representing sections of the forces and the British Legion says servicemen in Afganistan have an impossible mission, facing warlords defending a billion-a-year opium industry without which Afghani people would starve.

And while we pay for these wars, our hospitals, large and small, are at risk for need of more money.

I believe we need to be certain next election day that the elected are capable of friendship with America, without following them into misjudgements and war - preferably people who were against these wars from the beginning, such as some of our back benchers, disregarded, as were military and other expert advisors.
