Let public have say on plans

I would like to express my support for the referendum proposed by Councillor Williams, over Rowley's House. As an ex-tourist to Shrewsbury, and resident for the past six years I am amazed that the council can even consider the loss to the public of this outstanding building.

Whilst the outside view of the building is important - if you can ignore the eyesore of a car park - I feel that most tourists would want to see the internal structure of this building, and I believe it is also an important educational resource for primary students.

The councillors who are pushing with unnecessary haste for the sale of Rowley's appear to have little concern for the views of the residents of Shrewsbury.

Admittedly I feel it does need some change of use, and I would propose that the ground floor would make a much better venue for the tourist information centre than the present well hidden location, with the upper floors given over to semi-permanent displays.

This should all however be open to local opinion and debate.
