Buses worst in the country

Congratulations on your article highlighting the poor bus services in the county. I don't know of another county in the UK where the main towns are not connected by a decent bus service. Daytimes are bad enough - try getting somewhere in the evening.

Devon and Cornwall are large rural counties, but take a look at their services. They are vastly superior to those on offer in Shropshire, particularly in the evening.

I raised issues with Charles Smith of Telford & Wrekin Council last October regarding the poor service to and from BridgnorthÊand despite two reminders he still hasn't got back to me.

A bus travels to Bridgnorth in the evening arriving around 9pm. It then returns empty down the A442 back to Wellington. No-one will subsidise the service and Arriva won't run it at a potential loss. Madness.

The monopoly Arriva has on Telford's "flagship" 11, 22, 33, 44, and 55 services means that, per mile, we have the highest fares in the West Midlands.

The bus is twice as expensive as the train from Wellington to Oakengates, and takes four times longer.
