Shame our town let down
How lovely it is to read in the Star about the various towns and villages in Shropshire that have won awards reflecting how nice they look. How sad, then, to see a beautiful town such as Shifnal slowly eroding away because of the lacklustre policies of its local council.
Look around and you see areas of derelict buildings becoming a danger to the environment and public.
Pretty soon they will become havens for crime and anti-social behaviour. In Shrewsbury Road there is a large detached house that has stood empty for years.
There are the buildings once used by Patons garage, the old fire station and the courthouse, all falling down.
Having done nothing with those buildings, the council has approved the building site next to the Jerningham Arms, where work appears to have ground to a halt.
If and when it is completed, it looks to be a hideous development, totally out of keeping with the area.
I hate to be so negative, but this beautiful town in which we live is being allowed to deteriorate.
Mr B Rikey, Shifnal
