Was RAF plane not fit for use?
Some years ago, a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary focussed upon the fears of serving RAF personnel that dangerously flammable wiring was bringing down aircraft and killing pilots. While American forces had taken immediate action to protect their valuable aircrew and planes, the MoD considered finances to be more important and was playing down the peril.
I was so incensed I wrote to my MP, Bruce Grocott. He forwarded the letter to the relevant department, which replied with a lot of flannel.
The Nimrod may be packed with technology, but it's also a veteran aircraft and it's been intimated that a catastrophic wiring fire was what caused the Afghanistan crash. Given the propensity of this Government to send forces to war with inadequate equipment, I hope this tragedy will be investigated thoroughly.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
