Court would be vandalised next
I am a resident of Admaston and live near the playing field in the village. Sometime ago I attended a meeting organised by Wrockwardine Parish Council when the proposal for a new ball court on the playing field was discussed in public. There was not one single member of the audience in favour of this ball court and they showed their displeasure with anger.
Despite this, the chairman of the council at their next parish meeting used his casting vote to approve this ball court, and went on Shropshire radio recently giving his support.
Our parish council's support for this ball court gave encouragement to the planning board of Telford and Wrekin Council to vote in its favour.
Councillor Liz Claire stated at the board meeting that "these youngsters, who will use the play area will believe it's their own, they will protect the area from vandalism as much as the grown ups would - if they see vandalism they will do their own policing."
Councillor Claire must live in cloud cuckoo land.
These same youngsters she is referring to were provided by the parish council with a shelter on Admaston Green.
It was soon vandalised and painted with graffiti and the parish have spent more money painting and restoring it.
Yet on a Friday and Saturday night the area around the shelter is covered with empty beer tins, broken bottles, some of which had contained whisky and vodka.
The area is strewn with paper and other non printed objects - on a Sunday morning the area looks just like a scrap yard.
Is this what is going to happen all over again?
