Taxpayers fund roadworks

Telford & Wrekin Council has not got a good reputation with people in Newport. Firstly, we had Phil's politically motivated parking charges and then we have the mess that they have created in our High Street. The latest event just goes to prove how out of touch it is.

The other Friday morning we set off heading south on the A41 to find the council was setting up roadworks on the A41/A518 roundabout.

There were several vehicles involved including lorries with signs stating that work was starting that day. Four-way traffic lights were being set up and the whole scene was a hive of activity.

We thought that this would be a problem due to the nature of the weekend but as now the council does not listen to the taxpayers so we went quietly on our way.

Someone must have had a word with the council because when we returned two hours later all was gone except for the road signs, stating that work was starting today.

This was a good thing really as it was the weekend of the V Festival and turned out to be the busiest day of the year for the A41.

Who paid for all those men and vehicles on their abortive day? Higher council taxes next year everyone.
