Training contract is vital

Cosford, the RAF's largest training establishment for ground trades, will find out this autumn whether it has been awarded a £2.5 billion Government training contract.

The importance of securing this lucrative and very necessary contract is difficult to over-estimate.

The benefits that such a contract would afford the local communities are multifarious and wide-ranging.

Not only would it secure the jobs of the 2,500 staff currently employed at the base, it would provide a huge boost to the local economy and reward Cosford with the sort of national recognition it deserves.

This is an issue of paramount importance for the constituency of Shrewsbury & Atcham, many residents of which work at Cosford.

It is for those people, whose livelihoods hang in the balance, that I shall be fighting to secure this contract. I have written to the Defence Minister Tom Watson to inculcate in him a sense of the myriad advantages Cosford is able to offer over its competitors.

I would urge all my constituents to log on to www.letsfly-cosford.com to pledge their support.
