We must integrate

Mr Iftikhar's views (Starmail, August 10) cannot go unchallenged. Firstly, Faith Schools are a bad idea as they create social division. The French understand this and have banned them along with the wearing of hijab and burkah in schools and the workplace.

Secondly, Mr Iftikhar assumes his faith gives him moral superiority. Not so. There is no Western equivalent to jihad, fatwah, "honour" killings or Sharia Law.

Mr Iftikhar cites our "loose morals, yobbish behaviour and binge drinking" as a reason for state-funded Muslim Schools where Muslim children can "keep their faith, culture and languages".

Why not us Mr Iftikhar, and campaign for raised standards in all schools where children attain a high standard of English, practice their faith - whatever it may be - and celebrate our shared culture and values.

Many of us share your views the Bush/Blair madness in the East has exacerbated the threat of terrorism in the UK but this is another reason for cultural integration, not separatism.
