Health cash crisis
We face a crisis in healthcare funding in Powys. We must understand the scale of the problem and the reasons for it. Then, we must act quickly to sort this serious situation out.
After receiving a number of calls from concerned Montgomeryshire people I called Chris Mann, chairman of the Powys Local Health Board yesterday. He told me the LHB was on course to run a £5m deficit this financial year.
A number of residents have contacted me to tell me that their ongoing treatment is already being affected. Mr Mann assured me that there should be no problem with ongoing treatment and I therefore advise any patients encountering this situation to contact the Powys LHB immediately on 01874 711 661.
I shall be trying to work out exactly why the LHB is on course to run up such a large financial deficit. I will then write again to the Shropshire Star.
