Western Power Distribution to take on Shropshire apprentices
A power company will take on almost 90 new apprentices, including four for the Telford area.
Electricity network operator Western Power Distribution is looking for talented, enthusiastic individuals to join its ranks as part of its 2016 apprenticeship recruitment campaign.
WPD owns and operates the electricity distribution network, providing power around the clock to homes and businesses across the Midlands, South West England and South Wales.
It is planning to create 89 posts and is now advertising for the posts.
Theresa McConville, WPD's engineering training manager, said: "We're looking to recruit around 89 technical apprentices as part of our ongoing recruitment strategy, with four of those posts being based in the Telford area.
"Our apprentices have the opportunity to work towards an industry-specific qualification while gaining hands on experience at a local depot.
"Our in house training facilities are second to none and give individuals the opportunity to take their first step into a highly rewarding career."
Apprenticeships take two to three years to complete and applicants can expect an excellent range of benefits including competitive salary rates and in-depth training and development.
On completion, apprentices progress into a qualified craftsperson role working on either overhead lines, the underground cable network or maintaining equipment in substations. The role would suit individuals who enjoy working outdoors and would relish the challenge of a hands-on practical job. WPD employs more than 6,500 employees. It will be taking applications for apprenticeships until February.
The company is the distribution network operator for the Midlands, South West England and South Wales, and is responsible for delivering electricity to approximately 7.8 million customers in the UK.
