Joy at the return of Star Wars

The Shropshire Star's resident Star Wars nut, Paul Naylor, gives his reaction to the news that new films will be added to the series.

I awoke this morning and flung the curtains open to a grey October day. Lolloping to my car to make my way to the office, I flicked on the stereo.

Doom and gloom hangs in the air with further details emerging from the east coast of America in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

More grim stories follow about dodgy celebrities and political fallout.

But then the real news of the day was delivered. And my jaw dropped. In fact I can't believe I am writing this.

Star Wars fans around the globe will be celebrating like the freed galaxy at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Finally, after years of hoping and indeed praying, fans of the Star Wars series have received the news they've always wanted.

The often mooted seventh, eighth and ninth movies will now be made. And better than that, we are promised further adventures beyond, perhaps focusing on some of the fans' favourite characters.

But for now we are promised the continuing adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and all of Lucas's wonderful creations (minus Binks of course).

As I listened with disbelief, the sky lightened to a cyan hue, flowers sprung from neat meadows and cottages lined the streets with Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck bidding me a good day.

Ah yes, order has been restored. Good morning everyone, it is indeed a beautiful day.

It just goes to show that when you wish upon a Death Star, your dreams come true . . .

  • So, what do you think? Are the Star Wars films the blockbusters to end all blockbusters or are they overhyped fairy tales?
