Van Morrison and Alfie Boe part of star studded Eisteddfod line-up

Legendary singer songwriter Van Morrison and best-selling artist Alfie Boe will be among the artists starring at next year's Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.

The 2018 week-long festival will combine daytime musical competition attracting competitors from across the globe, with evening concerts.

An eclectic line up will also include baroque instrumental group, Red Priest, and award winning Welsh folk band, Calan.

The Eisteddfod will run from July 3 to 8 with tickets for the main concert series released to Festival Pass holders and Friends of the

Eisteddfod this week. They will go on sale to the public on December 14 although anyone becoming a "friend" will gain access to advance tickets.

Alfie Boe will open the festival on July 3. The recording artist who crossed over from classical to West End/Broadway is tipped along with Michael Ball as a potential Christmas number one.

It will be his third visit to Llangollen.

An evening with Van Morrison will take to the stage on July 6 the singer performing music from his extensive musical catalogue.

One of the most prolific recording artists and live performers in music history, Van Morrison 's musical influences include street poetry, jazz improvisation, Irish folk, blues, pop, rock and country.

Other concerts include the International Voice of the Future Competition, on July 4 and on July 5 international competitors from across the globe with special guests, the Welsh folk stars, Calan.

The festival's competitions will culminate on July 7, with the winners of the international choral competition competing for the titles of Choir of the World 2018 and the prestigious Pavarotti Trophy. There will also be music from Red Priest.

Llanfest on July 8 will end the Eisteddfod, with headliners and support acts to be announced in the new year.

Music Director of the Festival, Vicky Yannoula, said: “It's been an exhilarating first few months in my role as Music Director at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. We are proud that this year’s Festival line-up spans genres and generations, crossing

the boundaries of age, culture and creed. There really is something for everyone and we’ll be adding even more early in the new year, with the announcement of our Llanfest headliners for 2018.”
