Maurice Chandler Sports Centre in Stoke Heath, near Market Drayton, is the venue for the spooky event today as the £60,000 state-of-the-art rink that was installed at the beginning of the year celebrates its ongoing success.

Sarah Cartwright, joint centre manager said: "It has been brilliant all year. We have got our roller hockey league up and running again this Sunday – and the Sunday just gone we had a competition to raise funds for our new scoreboard, which is looking great. We had teams from all over the place come to that. It is great to be able to have all these teams come, and we don't charge for spectators."

But today the rink will be filled with goblins and ghouls rather than top hockey players.

Ms Cartwright said: "This is the first Halloween party we have held and we are really looking forward to it. It should be quite a bit of fun. We are asking children to come in costumes, so we hope they really get into the spirit of it all.

"We hope to have other things on as well like apple bobbing and games and a prize for the best costume."

The event runs from 7pm to 10pm and costs £6 per per person to include roller skates for those who need them. A family ticket is £20 and admits two adults and two children.
