The theatre has been closed for two days after a pipe burst in one of the upstairs toilets on Sunday.

But the plumbing problems mean that two live shows have had to be cancelled for this weekend.

The Lisa Knapp Band concert at 8pm on Friday will not go ahead, and nor will the Educating Ronnie drama, poetry and talks at 8pm on Saturday.

However all other events and screenings will go ahead, with a re-scheduled extra screening of comedy The Hundred Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren, on Thursday at 7.30pm.

Tony Johnston, speaking for the Assembly Rooms said: "There isn't any damage, the building is just a bit soggy. We've had de-humidifiers to deal with the damp and the carpets are being cleaned.

"The flooding started due to a leak in the women's bathroom on the top floor.

"Normally we'd be closed on a Sunday, but we had a table top sale on and luckily a member of staff spotted the leak, which helped to get it under control a lot sooner - otherwise we wouldn't have seen it until Monday morning."

Anyone with tickets for cancelled shows will be refunded.
