The comedian is set to return to Telford on March 8 for his one-night-only warm-up show.

But a rush to snap up the £16 tickets when they went on sale at 10am today caused the online and telephone booking system to fail.

Oakengates Theatre tweeted an apology to fans trying to get tickets for the Working Progress show where Jimmy will try out new material planned for his 2014/2015 Funny Business national tour, which starts in April.

Ticket sales were restricted to six per transaction and, when the website failed, the booking page said the show had sold out. However, the theatre was waiting until the system was up and running again to confirm the number of bookings taken.

The website message read: "Sorry, this show has sold out. Please contact the Box Office if you'd like to add your name to the (very long) waiting list for returns."

The theatre's Twitter feed was flooded with queries from fans who had spent more than an hour attempting to buy tickets, with payments confirmed but no confirmation.

One frustrated fan tweeted their disappointment. Zoe-Marie @ZoeMarie14 said: "Oakengates theatre website is shocking. Wouldn't let me enter any bank details spent 40 minutes fighting with the bloody thing. Given up!"
