Shrewsbury gardeners' strangely-shaped produce

They say you should talk to your plants and vegetables to help them grow.

And holding a conversation must be much easier when they have a face.

Green-fingered growers from across Shropshire have been submitting pictures of their strangely-shaped produce after Shrewsbury gardener George Wall and his wife Mary sent in pictures of two tomatoes shaped like ducks in their greenhouse.

Gary Roberts, also from Shrewsbury, sent in three pictures of his weird and wonderful tomatoes, one of which looks like it belongs in an aquarium.

Another looks like a saucy devil - complete with horns.

With added eyes to give it a cheeky face, Mr Roberts' fruit resembles a dolphin. Mr Roberts is clearly not a man who is adverse to playing with his food, adding a toy cow to one of his tomatoes.

Meanwhile, there's something in the ground at Paul Redding's Shrewsbury allotment.

The keen gardener has grown a coquettish-looking carrot, complete with folded arms and legs.

Mr Redding has named the little chap Jasper - after comedian Jasper.

He said his carrot "grew up on one of the allotments at Greenfields and attended our Open Day on August 17.

"I've been gardening for over 50 years and have never seen a carrot like Jasper."

And while some of the vegetables and fruit look like items, some have just grown in a way all of their own.

Mike P sent the Shropshire Star a picture of his pepper, which has decided to split in two.

Previously, growers in Shropshire have found a number of fruits and vegetables which look like common household items.

Another quacking find was a potato shaped like a duck in Ludlow and a Shrewsbury spud shaped like Noddy.
