The site is currently being converted into 159 houses and apartments by Shropshire Homes Limited.

Now part of the Leighton Park residential development, the Great Hall, is being marketed with commercial agents Halls for use for leisure, office, community or business purposes.

The hal has an internal floor area of 3,277 square feet and eight car parking spaces.

"The potential of the property can only be fully appreciated by undertaking an internal inspection," said James Evans from Halls Commercial.

"In particular, there is a wonderful ceiling, which could be incorporated into the design of the property."

The Great Hall is offered for sale on a 199-year lease at an annual ground rent of £150 and a service charge will be levied for the maintenance of the common areas and services at Leighton Park.

An independently owned and operated gymnasium and coffee shop were proposed in the original plans for the Great Hall, but other options for the building will be considered.

The original Shelton Hospital was opened in 1845, having been conceived by a committee of local dignitaries led by Sir Baldwin Leighton. The building was designed by George Gilbert Scott and the cost was £17,323.

The hospital was extended throughout the 19th and 20th centuries before being finally closed in 2012.
