Blog: AFC Telford need our support on journey
Woking are up next at the New Bucks Head on Saturday afternoon and it's 12th v 13th, with very little to separate the two sides writes AFC Telford blogger Rob Hughes.
Telford go into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Gateshead and without a win in six attempts, while Woking arrive having been beaten 3-2 at home to Tamworth on Saturday.
No win in six attempts is somewhat tempered by the string of injuries and suspensions we have suffered of late, something I looked at in my blog last week. Players are returning though and the competition for places is increasing.
Taking this into consideration, the options that Andy Sinton has available to him fills me with some confidence that we have enough strength within the squad to come away with a positive result and begin to climb the table again.
My personal expectations at the start of the season were perhaps not as high as they have become but I can clearly see, with the brand of football we are trying to play, that we are a lot more competitive than we were last year. We have got back to trying to play the right way and the players don't seem to be in awe of those we are playing against.
Our challenge now is to back the side picked by Sinton, encourage them, motivate them and cheer them on. As much as the team out there on the pitch have a job to do to get the crowd going, the crowd can do their part to get the players going too. It's a reciprocal thing. After all, we are all striving for the same thing. Together, we must believe that we can achieve it.
Yes, by all means remain cautious and realistic, but we have proven so far we can mix it with the bigger sides when we go into battle without fear. On the other side of the coin we have slipped on the Nuneaton banana skin where perhaps we thought we just had to turn up and get a result.
Patience throughout the season is crucial but with the calibre of players that we have got within this side, this could be our best season since reforming.
Teams should underestimate us at their peril. If we get our players back fit and raring to go then we could begin to piece together a decent season and perhaps even top it off with a trip to Wembley.
I would certainly recommend getting down and joining us on this exciting journey. Come along and bring a friend, a member of the family or a colleague from work. There's a buzz on the pitch, let's add to it on the terraces and in the stand.
You Whites!
