Pupils and staff from a Shropshire school have become internet stars after taking to the corridors and classrooms to record their own video for the hit song Uptown Funk.

The video, created by pupils of the Priory School in Shrewsbury, has been viewed a staggering 53,000 times since it was posted on Facebook last Thursday, with people eager to see teachers strutting their stuff alongside the school's year 10 pupils.

Filmed by Year 10 pupil Tom Harrison, the five-minute video features the choreographed efforts of pupils as they dance down corridors, stairs, and even burst into routines mid-lesson.

The video, created for the school's talent show, sees pupils performing to the soundtrack of the Mark Ronson song, which features guest vocals from Bruno Mars.

Michael Barratt, school principal, said he was proud of the pupils' efforts and delighted that so many people had viewed the video. "I just thought it was brilliant display of creativity, of involvement and community," he said.

Tom, who filmed and edited the video, said he has been passionate about film-making since he was eight years old.

The video starts in the school reception area, then gradually moves through corridors and classrooms, with teachers and pupils moving in time to Ronson's music.

The school dance troupe was originally planning to dance to the song, but PE teacher Laura Heath, who had seen similar videos online, thought the school should make a film instead.

Pupil Annabel Mulliner, 15, a member of the school dance troupe, said an e-mail was sent out to see who would be interested in being in the video.

She said: "Lots of teachers jumped at the chance to be involved and we also found that the boys were just as enthusiastic to be in it as the teachers were."

The video took a month to shoot, with filming completed during lunchtimes and after school.

All the dancing in the video was choreographed by the pupils themselves and the end features a closing credit sequence where, in true Hollywood style, out-takes from the filming are shown.

Mr Barratt has now challenged the school's other year groups to come up with their own videos to rival the Uptown Funk success.

He said: "I am hugely proud of the efforts of the pupils and what I have said to the school is that I want one of these from each house next year."

Many parents have shown their support of the video project via comments on Facebook, with one reading: "So pleased my daughter is going to Priory".
