The day has come – Mohamed Salah to leave Liverpool after ‘illustrious career’
The Egyptian has made 435 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 255 goals.

Mohamed Salah expressed his deep gratitude to Liverpool after announcing “the day has come” for him to leave the Premier League club.
The 33-year-old, who will leave the Reds at the end of the current season, arrived at Anfield from Roma in 2017 and has made 435 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 255 goals to make him the club’s third all-time leading goalscorer.
In his time on Merseyside, Salah has lifted two Premier League titles along with a Champions League, FA Cup and two Carabao Cup trophies.
This season the Egyptian forward has made 34 appearances for the Reds, scoring 10 goals, and he confirmed his departure on social media, stating that Liverpool will “always be home”.
In a video featuring highlights of his time with the club posted on X, Salah said: “Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come.
“This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not of this club.
“We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present.
“And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career, and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.

“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.
“Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Liverpool also confirmed Salah’s departure, describing him as one of their “greatest players”.
“Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season,” a statement on the club website said.
“The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.
“Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.
“Signed from Roma in the summer of 2017, the number 11 has firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history, helping the club to two Premier League titles, the Champions League, Club World Cup, Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as an FA Community Shield.”
In December, Salah’s future at Liverpool was thrown into doubt following the post-match comments he made after a draw with Leeds, where he suggested he had no relationship with head coach Arne Slot and had been “thrown under the bus”.
He was left out of the squad for their subsequent Champions League game against Inter Milan and was a substitute against Brighton before departing to represent Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the forward returned to the fold for a Champions League victory against Marseille in January and has since been a regular starter, but missed Saturday’s Premier League game against Brighton due to injury.

After the international break, there are seven Premier League matches left and April also sees Liverpool play Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals alongside meetings with Paris St Germain in the final eight of the Champions League.
Liverpool’s statement added: “With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”
With no confirmed next destination revealed by either the player or Liverpool when the news broke on Tuesday, Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa attempted to quell any speculation, tweeting: “We do not know where Mohamed will play next season. This also means that no one else knows.”
