Promotion-clinching Shrewsbury Town striker James Collins admits the weekend winner was the highlight of his career – as he confirmed he wants to stay at the Greenhous Meadow.

The 16-goal frontman is out of contract this summer and has yet to pen a new deal.

But after writing his name into the club's history books, the 21-year-old is keen to lead the Town attack in League One next season.

"I would like to stay," he said. "It's a great club, the fans are great and everyone has been good to me. We'll sit down at the end of the season and sort everything out.

"I want to be here. Now the season is over we can sit down and talk about everything."

Collins' 38th minute header gave the Town the victory that cemented their promotion and the former Villa man admitted he had never scored a bigger goal.

"It was a great to score a goal that means so much to the club," he added.

"It could have been anyone and it happened to be me. I hadn't scored for a few games so it was nice.

"These are the moments you dream about and obviously these are the ones you want to savour in your career. It is the greatest accolade in my career to date.

"Not losing at home all season is brilliant for the fans and they have been great with us and they deserve it. The players have been great as well and we have had a lot of key goals and late equalisers and I am happy for the boys."

And Collins is now looking ahead to life in League One with Town facing appetising trips to Portsmouth, Coventry and Preston.

He added. "League One will be a new challenge, better grounds, bigger clubs and better clubs. It's where this club deserves to be.

"We missed out on promotion last year by a point but it is great for the gaffer, the team, and the chairman.

"The gaffer likes to do things right and he has done that and brought in some quality players and bar Swindon we have been stronger than everyone this season."
