Telford Tigers battle hard but come up short

TRS Telford Tigers Assistant Coach Karl Creamer believes the investment in a new-look line-up will pay dividends - despite a 3-2 defeat to Swindon Wildcats.

The additions of Scott McKenzie, Juraj Senko and Dmitri Rodin have transformed expectations at the EPL outfit, with eyes now firmly on a place in the play-offs.

Sunday's visit of the Wiltshire outfit had been hailed as the first in a string of winnable games, but a lack of training time together took its toll.

The three new signings are yet to complete a full week of practice - and Creamer believes the best is yet to come.

He said: "We haven't had long together and in fact, Dmtiri only joined us just before the game and it is really hard to come together in those circumstances.

"But the positives are that we battled hard and lost two key players so we were down to the bare minimum again. Swindon are a good team.

"If we work hard, we still start to gel and it will come together for us very soon."

Goals from Senko and Tom Soar gave Telford fans hope of a first victory in nine games, as the second period ended 2-2.

Swindon, however, snatched the points with a solo goal from Jonas Hoog with twelve minutes remaining.

Telford's ambitions were hit early on with the loss of import Patrick Greene with an ankle injury, while Mckenzie left the game late on after heavy mid-ice check.

Creamer added: "It was a great performance from our guys, but losing Pat and Scott took its toll. Both teams had a goal disallowed and in the final period, it came down to who wanted it the most.

"They have got more experience of playing together, but there are a lot of positives to take from the game."

Telford now face a tough week of training as they look to prepare for the visit of EPL title-favourites Basingstoke Bison next Sunday.
