Berriew dig deep to bag vital point

Title-chasing Berriew showed their fighting qualities as two late goals earned a dramatic 2-2 draw at Welshpool Town in the MMP Mid Wales League Division One.

The Rhiewsiders looked to be heading for defeat as strikes from Sam Evans and Ricky Litchfield carved Pool a two-goal advantage.

However, the hosts staged a stirring rescue act with two last-gasp replies, Joe Haycock getting the first before a thumping strike from Tomos Williams earned a precious point.

The draw sees Berriew trail leaders Llanidloes Town by six points with two games in hand, while Welshpool remain fifth.

Title rivals Llanfair United were frustrated in their 2-2 draw against Builth Wells who earned parity with a last-gasp penalty after Karl Seliearts and Ben Jones seemed to have put the Mount men in charge.

Llanfair are five points off the pace in third, but remain handily placed with three games in hand.

Caersws notched a 2-0 win at Radnor Valley to move up to second, four points off the summit with three games left, while Carno ran out 5-3 winners at struggling Churchstoke.

Elsewhere, Llansantffraid Village won 2-0 against Aberaeron at Treflan while Kerry succumbed 4-2 at Tywyn Bryncrug.

In Division Two, Hay St Mary’s maintained their promotion push after sinking Abermule 3-0 while Four Crosses stayed in the hunt with a 3-2 success at Borth United.
