The Wolves keeper confirmed his retirement on Friday on medical advice after beating leukaemia.

His announcement was followed by videos of keepers from around the world joining in the ‘one Carl Ikeme’ chant.

And Italian shot-stopper Buffon followed suit, posting a video and saying ‘there is only one Carl Ikeme’ with a thumbs up.

Former Villa keeper David James also sang the chant alongside his Indian Super League team Kerala Blasters (whom James now manages).

Other past and present goalkeepers to share messages of support include Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo; current Wolves keepers Rui Patricio and John Ruddy; former Wolves keepers Matt Murray and Wayne Hennessey; and Iker Casillas, Petr Cech and David Seaman.
