Laurie Dalrymple: Nuno 'has a say in all Wolves signings'

Every potential signing will have the involvement of new boss Nuno Espirito Santo, managing director Laurie Dalrymple has stated.

Wolves are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer with a big squad to trim and a number of new additions needed to improve a side that finished 15th last season.

There have been questions on the respective involvement of previous bosses Walter Zenga and Paul Lambert in recruitment.

Nuno, Dalrymple insists, will be central to everything that happens.

“There’s a recruitment structure within the club that now involves Nuno, clearly – our recruitment department here, Nuno and the owners,” the managing director said.

“Everything goes past everyone, particularly the head coach.

“It would be dangerous to have a situation where if the coach turned up and we say by the way here’s your first player and he’s never even clapped eyes on him but he’s in the squad on June 26 so get used to it... far from it.

“The process with which we take decisions involve the coach, the recruitment team and the owner.”

A number of failures were made in the transfer market last summer, with the likes of Paul Gladon, Joao Teixeira, Ola John, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Silvio rarely featuring.

Dalrymple said there was agreement across the board where the squad need strengthening – but conceded the recruitment strategy had now changed upon Nuno’s arrival.

“Who we bring in to fill those gaps, that’s where the discussions happen,” he added.

“There’s been a plan that has been building for several weeks on targets.

“The process probably looks slightly different to where it was maybe eight weeks ago. But the broad brush principles are the same in terms of the positions we need to go for. It’s the style of the individual and the characteristics of that individual that might differ now in terms of the personality of the coach we’ve got in.

“Does that target list look massively different now? Not massively.”
