Wolves boss Paul Lambert says no deal for Robbie Keane - but doesn't rule out further January buys

Wolves boss Paul Lambert says there's no move in the offing to bring Robbie Keane back to Molineux – but hasn't ruled out further additions in the transfer window.

Keane is a free agent after leaving LA Galaxy and a number of Championship clubs, including Wolves, have been linked with him.

The Irishman left Wolves in 1999 but has sporadically been linked with a return in recent years and still has close ties to the club.

But Lambert said: "There's no denying he's an absolutely brilliant player who's had a great career.

"But you've got to move on as well at certain times.

"It's not something I've inquired about. I've got Nouha Dicko, Joe Mason, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Bright Enobakhare, Andreas Weimann and young lads who, if they can have a career like Robbie Keane, will be doing great.

"At the minute I'm delighted with the strikers I've got."

Lambert signed Austrian international forward Weimann on loan from Derby County on Thursday.

Despite having a number of forwards at his disposal he hasn't ruled out a further signing in that position.

But he refused to be drawn on continued speculation linking Wolves with Blackburn Rovers utility man Ben Marshall, despite Rovers boss Owen Coyle publicly naming Wolves has having lodged a bid for the player.

"I don't know (about signing another striker). If it's somebody I thought was good enough and somebody who fits in to the way we're playing then maybe.

"We can't go mad and spend an incredible amount of money.

"What happened in the summer is a different issue. We've got to be really careful we don't put the club in trouble."

"(Ben is) their player, so there's nothing I can say.

"It is what it is. I've got my own team to prepare."

Jed Wallace became the third player to leave the club on loan during this window when he joined Millwall on Thursday, following Ola John (Deportivo La Coruna) and Prince Oniangue (Bastia) out the door.

Lambert said of their departures: "One or two you've just got to make a call on that they can either play for you, or they can't.

"One or two guys had to leave for their own careers and get games."
