Wolves going on the offensive, says Paul Lambert
Wolves won't sit back and defend at QPR tomorrow, boss Paul Lambert says, as he eyes up bringing in players with character in January.
Lambert takes his team to Loftus Road looking to end a nine-game winless run that has seen them drop to 21st in the table.
And the Scot, who admitted his players were playing for their futures, dismissed any notion of playing for a point.
"We're going there to win," he said. "We're not going to set our stall out to defend for 90 minutes. We have to win games, it's as simple as that. One win could get us on a bit of a roll.
"You look at the table there aren't too many points between mid-table and the bottom teams. It's not just going to be plain sailing."
Lambert admitted at the weekend his team were in a relegation fight.
"We've got to realise what we're involved in," he added yesterday.
"I think home truths are important. People have to realise it, or you can be oblivious to it and before you know it you can be right in it."
A number of players could leave in January with Lambert looking to trim a 30-man squad.
He still wants to bring in a couple of key additions though – particularly players with Championship experience.
"Ideally we've got to get one or two who know the league.," he said. "That's what we'll try to do.
"I've spoke to the owners and Kevin, who's been great about it. We're singing off the same hymn sheet which is important. We all know and recognise what we've got to try to do."
Does he think there are enough characters in the dressing room to pull Wolves out of trouble?
"I think the group needs a bit of help," Lambert replied. "Whether that's on the pitch or off the pitch. They're a young team – if you look at the back four on Saturday there are two young lads from England Under-21s. They need a little bit of help, on the pitch or off it.
"I think any time in the dressing room you've got to bring in people to help."
