Kenny Jackett: Wolves can't stand still

Boss Kenny Jackett thinks summer signings are needed at Wolves to complement his young squad – and warned that the club can't stand still in the transfer market.

Jackett doesn't yet know his budget for the coming months.

He said it's 'obvious' where Wolves need to strengthen – and that despite asking the hierarchy, he doesn't know how much will be spent.

"We've certainly asked but there isn't a clear budget," he said. "We can see where we need to improve.

"I'm looking for them (his young players) to consistently keep growing. They're at a good age to be able to do this, to get better as a group.

"That always needs to be supplemented, definitely. And it's pretty easy to see where we need to supplement it at the moment.

"At what financial level that is in the summer, that's to be decided. That's possibly consistent with a club up for sale."

Teenagers Connor Hunte and Bright Enobakhare were given another chance to impress off the bench in Saturday's 0-0 stalemate with Blackburn.

While pleased with their contribution, Jackett knows the club's youngsters will need help if Wolves are to mount a promotion campaign next year.

"We are trying to do work with the players that we have and develop some younger players," he said. "Is it enough right now for us to compete in a very good Championship? Certainly not at the top end.

"But I don't feel we should lose the strong youth aspect we have, and I would want to encourage it.

"Our equation is trying to develop players and work with the group that we have, with quite a few injuries to forward players that have cost us.

"I don't know what the situation is with the sale of the club and when there is something to announce I am sure the owner and chief executive will tell me.

At the moment we are working with the players that we have and we are looking to do better with what we have because we have just had three 0-0 draws at home.

"You can't stand still as a club because other people will compete and go past you. I don't know about the investment or at what stage the club will be sold."
