Jackett's eager for proper Wolves test
Wolves kick off their domestic pre-season campaign tomorrow with Kenny Jackett stating: The real test starts now.
Jackett has just four games to fine tune his team before the league season gets under way on August 8.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Burton Albion are the opposition tomorrow ahead of games against Shrewsbury Town, Aston Villa and Doncaster Rovers.
Wolves won both their first-team friendlies during a trip to France last week. But Jackett feels that facing league opposition will be a real barometer as to where his team stands.
"The next four games that we have before we start will help me to assess where we are as a team and where the players are individually," he said. "This will be more of a test and a better yardstick for me.
"It's a hard game, a good test for us and the sort of test we need.
"No disrespect to the foreign games, but they're different types of games and not necessarily our standard and I do feel it's clearer against the British opposition exactly where your team is."
Jackett will select his strongest side possible for the Pirelli Stadium trip.
However, it is unlikely either Carl Ikeme, George Saville or new signing Jed Wallace will be involved as the trio are still recovering from knee injuries.
Jon Flatt is likely to get the nod in goal, depending on the outcome of Aaron McCarey's FA drug hearing.
Burton were promoted from League Two as champions last season and Jackett expects a tough game against Hasselbaink's team.
"It's a good period for the club, it's a very good ground and looking at their training facilities at St George's Park, it's obviously an attractive club to play for," said the Wolves chief. "Our next four games gives us a good test, league opposition, good games and a variety of standards.
"They'll all be hard games. For us, shaping the team, the next four games will be very good."
