Wolves' Leigh Griffiths targets top two
Hitman Leigh Griffiths today vowed Wolves have the squad to hunt down Leyton Orient and Peterborough.
Griffiths's eighth goal of the season saw Wolves take the lead against Coventry on Saturday only to be pegged back by substitute Aaron Phillips's 86th-minute equaliser.
The result meant third-placed Wolves lost ground after Leyton Orient won 4-0 at Tranmere while Molineux old boy Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's 20-yard winner gave Posh a 1-0 triumph at home to Shrewsbury.
Peterborough now have a five-point advantage over Wolves and Orient six, although Kenny Jackett's side have a game in hand on both.
But Griffiths believes the depth of Wolves' squad will see them overhaul the top two over the course of the season.
"Leyton Orient and Peterborough are flying but we've just got to hang in there," said the Scotland international. We've got the squad to compete at the top of the league.
"You can see from the boys who didn't make the team on Saturday: with players such as Zeli Ismail and Lee Evans – who have all played their part this season – not in the squad."
Wolves had the better of the possession but failed to create the chances at the weekend, but Griffiths believes their time will come as they prepare to host Oldham tomorrow night.
"The manager said after the game it's going to turn one time – hopefully that's tomorrow," he said.
