Leigh Griffiths urged to net new Wolves deal

Leigh Griffiths was this afternoon challenged to win a new Wolves contract – as Kevin Doyle's future remained unclear.

Scotland international Griffiths has had an impressive pre-season since the club took up the 12-month option on his contract.

As it stands, the 22-year-old striker could walk away for nothing next summer. But Jackett is hoping that won't be the case and he can award the former Livingston and Dundee marksman with a new deal on the back of his goals firing Wolves out of League One.

"We haven't been working together for very long and he's been out on loan for a long time, so it's early days, but first impressions are very good," said Jackett. "So of course we will look at it."

Griffiths has recovered from a kick on the calf to take his place in tomorrow's final friendly against Real Betis at Molineux.

While Griffiths is very much part of the first-team picture now, Doyle will miss tomorrow's game along with Zeli Ismail (groin)

The Ireland international was sent home today ill and has been ruled out of action, meaning he will go into the League One season having not played any football this summer.

Jackett insists there hasn't been any interest in the 29-year-old – with Celtic strongly linked – and stressed he will consider Doyle to play when he is fully fit.

But he expects the one-time £6.5m club record signing to be sold before the end of August.

"There haven't been any approaches," said the boss.

"He's a very good professional with a very good pedigree over many seasons.

"There have not been that many deals done yet but as August comes, I'm sure there will be more interest."
