Leigh Griffiths eyes the No 9 shirt at Wolves
Wolves striker Leigh Griffiths returned to pre-season training today targeting the vacant No 9 shirt and a load of goals.
The 22-year-old linked up north of the border with the 23-man squad that travelled to Stirling University for a week-long training camp.
Wolves turned down an undisclosed bid for Griffiths from Hibernian recently, after his 28 goals on loan at Easter Road last season made him a hot property.
That stunning return saw Griffiths voted the SPL's Player of the Season and he won his first Scotland start against Croatia last month.
Griffiths is concentrating on repeating his Hibernian form for Wolves as he rejoined his team-mates today.
And he has one eye on the coveted shirt vacated by Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and famously worn with distinction by idols such as Steve Bull, John Richards and Derek Dougan.
Griffiths said: "I was handed the No 9 shirt at Hibs which a lot of great players have worn before me.
"Thankfully, I managed to live up to the mark and scored a lot of goals.
"Hopefully, I can do the same at Wolves this year as well.
"Everyone will be giving it a fresh push and we'll all have to take the responsibility for what's needed.
"Hopefully we can get off to a good start and go on a good run."
Griffiths is also looking to make up for lost time at Wolves, where he has only made one 10 minute substitute's appearance.
He said: "I've not had the breaks at Wolves which maybe I could have had previously, but I'm looking forward to the challenge now.
"I want to get back for pre-season, work hard to get myself in the team and score goals."
"I spoke to the gaffer a couple of weeks ago when I came down and found somewhere to live, so I'm looking forward to getting settled."
Griffiths believes last season has given him a fresh confidence to do well at Molineux.
He said: "I've been on loan for the last couple of seasons and I've done well, especially last season, scoring near enough 30 goals.
"It's a new chapter for me and one I'm looking forward to.
"I will always be very close to Hibs. I supported them as a boy and I will still try and get back there whenever I can to watch games.
"But now my focus is on Wolves and hopefully I can get in the team and show people what I can do."
