Wolves in early talks on deal for Berra
Wolves have held tentative talks with defender Christophe Berra over a new contract, it emerged today.
The Scotland international, who is into the final year of his contract, remains on the transfer list after submitting a request on the eve of the season.
Fans even booed the 27-year-old during the Capital One Cup-tie against Aldershot following his request to leave the club. Wolves received no interest and the former Hearts centre-back, a £2.3m signing in January 2009, pledged to knuckle down and do his best.
Berra, who was due to make the 250th League appearance of his career today at Watford, has been true to his word.
Now manager Stale Solbakken has said Berra, who has clocked up 138 games for Wolves, could win a new deal when his four-year contract expires next summer.
"We've talked a bit about it," said the Molineux chief.
"He's playing in the last year of his contract and he wanted to leave in the summer, so he's in a good position. But both parties are relaxed about it and we'll see what happens."
n Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey will miss the rest of the season after surgery on his cruciate ligament injury.
